That being said, what we witnessed in Federal Politics over the weekend is nothing short of astonishing. The result of the Federal Election is proof that dreams do come true.

Politics aside, the newly elected Australian Prime Minister’s story is truly inspirational. Anthony Albanese was born to a single mother in council housing in Sydney’s inner west. Life wasn’t easy and many things were uncertain except for his mother’s determination that her son’s life would be better than her own.

Interestingly, I met Anthony Albanese briefly at a luncheon last year. He presented himself as a humble, hard-working individual with a great sense of humour. He made it quite clear at the time that his ultimate dream was to lead our great nation one day. On Saturday night, his dream finally came true.

In my role as the principal financial adviser at Convergence Wealth, I’m in a privileged position where clients are regularly sharing their dreams and aspirations with me. Most people are realistic, but some approach their dreams using the conventional narrative formula in many movies which leads them to believe that, after one or two hiccups and a couple of stressful hours, they will eventually get what they’ve always wanted.

Let there be no illusion - dreams happen one step at a time, manifested over years, not weeks. Dreams (big or small) are usually realised through the magic of persistence, determination, commitment, passion, focus and hard work. And of course, the support of a good financial adviser!
